FOOTBIKING WITH MARIO
All the way back in 2008, Gary introduced us to Mario Reijne of Stepteam High Level when we went for our schoolin’ at the World Championships. You can see what Mario has contributed to the sport over the last 30 years at www.stepteamhighlevel.nl. After our introduction, we started bugging the heck out of Mario and the International Kicksled and Scooter Association about bringing the sport, and the European pro’s to the USA for some competitions. We are gaining some ground on that, and could go ‘all the way’ if I could just track down Charles from CocaCola. Man, he said he was really digging us!
Okay, so in our last correspondence we asked Mario to send us something we could post in the blog. He obliged and took the opportunity to address our nearly-scheduled attempt to take on his 24hr Solo World Record on the footbike.
FBUSA!
You asked if I could write something for your website. Those things take some time around here because we have to translate everything to English. You asked me why no-one will break my 24-hour record, well, Peter Groeneveld, the guy who made our carbon scooters will probably smash my record. I made it to
Everything else is going very well here. We won a lot of prizes and titles last season, among which a European championship time trial title for Rosanne and a European criterium title and time trial title for Maxime. Rosanne came in second in the Dutch sprint championship, the Dutch national championship and the national competition, the Kickbike-cup. Maxime and Jannes van der Heiden, another young member of our team, won the national championship and Melissa Kwint finished second. As for me, I was second veteran behind Peter Groeneveld at the national championship, but I won the Kickbike-cup, for veterans.
Next season we’ll have four more quick senior men, so we can hopefully win some big races there as well. For now our members are training very hard 3 to 4 times a week. We hope to score big at the World championships with multiple titles and we also want to shine at the Eurocups and in the Dutch races. I want to race one more year with the veterans. After the World championships I’ll probably concentrate on training and coaching of our team and limit myself to making long distances tours of 200+ kilometres. I hope you (Gary, Mike, Jill and you) can make it to
